Minor in German
The minor consists of a total of 15 units, including 3 units of upper-division coursework.
All coursework used to satisfy the requirements of the minor must be completed with a minimum grade point average of 2.0.
Program Learning Outcomes
- LISTENING
Students will have intermediate-level listening skills. They will be able to understand information conveyed in simple, sentence-length speech on familiar or everyday topics. - READING
Students will have intermediate-level reading skills. They will be able to understand conventional narrative and descriptive texts with a clear underlying structure though their comprehension may be uneven. - SPEAKING
Students will have intermediate-level speaking skills. They will be able to handle a variety of communicative tasks. They will be to able to participate in most informal and some formal conversations and to speak on selected academic topics but will fall back on description and narration. - WRITING
Students will have writing skills at the intermediate level. They will be able to meet practical writing needs, such as simple messages and letters, requests for information, and notes. In addition, they can ask and respond to simple questions in writing. - CULTURE
Students will be able to make comparisons between cultural products and practices of the German-speaking cultures and their own and they will begin to understand the underlying cultural perspectives.
